IUCN Bryophyte Red List

The IUCN Red List of threatened species is an objective tool to assess the extinction risk of animals, plants and fungi, and thus serves as a global indicator of the threats to biodiversity.

The current IUCN Red List contains 210 species of Bryophyta, 114 species of Marchantiophyta and 3 species Anthocerotophya, in total thus only 327 species which have been assessd out of a total of 20’000 bryophyte speices worldwide. Red listing of bryophytes is thus a key priority of the Bryophyte Specialist Group.
